Stance plays a key role in an effective golf swing. The momentum of the club depends on the reliability of the axis around which the player’s body rotates. To have a solid axis, the player needs the kind of straight back that only comes from proper hip placement. Experts suggest that golfers experience this stance by standing straight and placing the fingertips at the joint in front of the pelvis. This allows the golfer to push the hips gently back and reach forward with a flat back and flat shoulder blades.

In this position, the golfer’s feet should be shoulder width apart if using shorter clubs and 2 to 3 inches beyond shoulder width for longer clubs. Knees should be parallel to the line of swing, and feet should point slightly left of the target in a square stance. From here, the club when swung should hit the ball.

Golf Digest Articles Offers Recovery Shot Tips from the Professionals

A longtime resident of Tennessee, David Psimer has been the owner and CEO of DP Builders for more than two decades. In his free time, David Psimer enjoys engaging in a range of active pursuits, including golf.

Golf Digest recently issued an article with tips from some of the game’s top professional players on how to recover from a less-than-ideal shot. According to well-known English professional golfer Ian Poulter, playing out of deep rough requires that players hit down on the ball with a strong swing to power through the grass. Poulter states that players should position themselves a couple of inches further back from the ball than normal, place more weight on the front foot, and hinge the club rapidly during the backswing in order to hit down on the ball.

After a shot that lands in a deep bunker, South African golf professional, Louis Oosthuizen, recommends a straightforward grip adjustment to facilitate a high pop-up shot with a quick stop. Oosthuizen suggests weakening the right hand grip, leaving the left hand in a strong grip, and placing the ball slightly above center.

Golf Digest recently issued an article highlighting the many career accomplishments of Billy Casper, a former professional golfer who passed away in early February. In recent media publications, Casper has been widely regarded as an underrated player, and the Golf Digest article reviews many of Casper’s most impressive golfing achievements, including his 51 PGA Tour titles. Only six other players in golfing history hold more titles, and golf’s current players are far from surpassing Casper’s record, with Phil Mickelson being the closest contender at 42 wins.

Not only did Casper win 51 PGA Tours, but three of those wins were majors championships. The Golf Digest article notes that just 13 other players have won more majors since Casper’s first win in 1959. In evidence of his enduring success, Casper also won one or more PGA Tour events for 16 consecutive years, a streak that is only surpassed by golfing legends Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
